2 Drawer Lateral File Cabinet

This is a big perk for a couple of different reasons. First it is easy to just swivel around in my chair and search for what ever I need. Second is that it is a major space saver and if you are working from a home office than you need as much space as possible.

There are several choices you will need to make when it comes to buying a 2 drawer lateral file cabinet.

The first choice will be what kind of documents will you be filing. If all you will be filing is 8.5 x 11 paper than go with that size. If you will be filing legal size paper make sure to go with that size. But regardless of which size you decide to go with. You can always use racks and partitions to set up the drawers in what ever configuration you choose.

Steel, wood and particle board will be the other choices you will need to make. And of course there are pros and cons to each one of these.

A 2 drawer steel cabinet is the most common and probably the  best choice for your office. Because steel is virtually indestructible they can really take a beating and will more or less last a life time. As far as colors are concerned you don’t really have much of a choice. You can go with black, white or grey. But if you just can’t help yourself you can always just paint it.

Wood filing cabinets are another great choice and make for a classic look in your office.  They are normally from pine or oak. Wood cabinets take more maintenance that steel ones.  Tighten screws and maintain the hard ware with these cabinets and they will last a life time. 

Finally your other choice would be a cabinet made of particle board. Save your money and never buy a 2 drawer lateral file cabinet that is made of particle board. They are absolute garbage.

A few more things to consider when buying a 2 drawer lateral file cabinet.

• Do the drawers extend on telescopic ball bearing arm slides? Should be yes 
• Do the drawers have a lock with key? Up to you. 
• Do the drawers lock preventing more than one drawer to be open at a time? Should be yes. Big safety issue. 
• Does the color fit well into your over all design scheme?
