2 Drawer Filing Cabinet

Simply being able to reach down and open it up is a major time saver.  The days of getting up and walking over to the cabinet are over with this cabinet.

The two main types of 2 drawer filing cabinets you will need to choose from are the lateral and horizontal filing cabinets.

The lateral filing cabinet is an obvious choice for anyone that will be storing a large amount of files.  The reason why the lateral cabinet is an obvious choice is because it contains about the same amount of filing space as a 4 drawer vertical cabinet.

The 2 drawer vertical filing cabinet is your second choice. The vertical cabinet will only take up half the space as the vertical but then it only will hold half as many files. It is important to know how many files and how much paper work you plan on keeping around.

When buying a 2 drawer filing cabinet it is very important to pay attention to what the cabinet was built for. They will be built for two main types of paper. The first is regular paper 8.5” x 11” and the second is legal paper 8.5” x 14”.

Don’t let the paper size for the cabinets stress you out. Regardless of which model you choose to go with, there are racks available to partition the drawers into the sizes you need them to be to store your documents efficiently.  In other words don’t run out and buy a filing cabinet of each size.

The other two things to consider before you buy a 2 drawer filing cabinet is what it is made of and what color you want it to be.  

Filing cabinets will be made with steel, wood, or particle board and we’ll discuss which one of these is the best for you.

A steel cabinet will more than likely be the best choice for your office. Because steel is virtually indestructible they can really take a beating and will more or less last a life time. There is not really much of a choice as far as colors are concerned. You can either  go with black, white or grey and of course you can always paint it another color if you choose to do so.  

Wood filing cabinets are another great choice. They look great and normally are made from with pine or oak. Be prepared for the hardware and screws to start coming loose after a while. Tighten screws and maintain these cabinets and they will last a life time.  

There’s no doubt that particle board will be worst filing cabinet you could buy. In the beginning they look great and come in a variety of finishes such as oak, maple, pine and mahogany. But after a while they tend to just fall apart. The hardware and screws can strip easily and it is almost impossible to fix them when this happens.
